BROKEN HEARTED MOTHER

A broken hearted mother drew her dear daughters near
Said 'I have grieved the Lord by coming here
Into this far land that I chose as my home
Now I must go away, never to return'

'Daughters, oh daughters, do not follow me
I have no more sons for you to marry
Return to your homeland this lesson to learn
Now I must go away, never to return'

One daughter she was gone, but the other one did stay
Saying 'Mother, oh mother, I am resolved this day
That your people shall be mine', and on the same road they trod
Saying, 'Mother as I love you, your God shall be my God'

And the Lord he was good
And the Lord he was kind
For the maid was a stranger of noble mind
For the love of a mother
In God's purpose divine
The Messiah and Christ Child was born
Born of her line

When day awoke, the barley was high
To glean in the fields went the daughter to try
There was one there, and Boaz was he
Saying, 'Come now sweet maiden, your good works I do see
Marry me'

And the Lord he was good
And the Lord he was kind
For the maid was a stranger of noble mind
For the love of a mother
In God's purpose divine
The Messiah and Christ Child was born
Born of her line
